Home Time to takeoff!

Hi, I'm Mitch Gallina

Me

My name is Mitch and I'm a Student Nurse at University of the Sunshine Coast.

I just applied and was accepted into the International Student Volunteer program to travel to Cape Town, South Africa in January 2013 to participate in an Unpaid Clinical Placement in a remote community Hospital for two weeks.

At the moment I work two jobs and study full time at USC, my jobs are;

  • Sports Medic at Assist First Aid here on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.
  • Contract work for Unique DJs here on the Sunshine Coast.
  • Bachelor of Nursing Science at University of the Sunshine Coast.

Why the website, Mitch?

I made this website to accomplish a few things;

  • Blog this amazing opportunity throughout with pictures.
  • Share my experience with the ISV organisation.
  • Share my experience of South Africa, see About South Africa section.
  • Provide readers a method of donation, information about how your money is spent, limits of donation and when I will stop accepting.
Don't forget to click Like above!

Donations

Please and Thankyou!

When you click Donations you will be prompted with a Paypal screen. If you wish to use a credit or debit creditcard follow this instruction.

How to use credit cards

My paypal accounts email IS 8D, that isn't a mistake.

I started this website with the intention of sharing experience, and without donations and my fundraising effort this entire trip would be impossible.

So far donated:

AUD$50.00

The biggest problem with Volunteering anywhere is the 'pay your own way' problem, but since the application process I've already spent over;

AUD$500.00 to to secure my position in the program, and in total, it will cost me AUD $1,995.00

If you're unable to give, please consider sharing this blog with your friends on Facebook, and tell them to enjoy the pictures and information leading up to the experience! Including anticipation of the final countdown!

If you are available to donate please read the disclaimer below:

I am in no way affiliated with the International Student Volunteer program, and am simply embarking on their 18+ 2 week South Africa Student Volunteer Program to work in a Clinical Hospital Setting. Your donations will be EXPLICITLY used for my PERSONAL EXPENSES for the experience and will not go towards any fundraising organisations.

Once the goal of AUD$1,200.00 is achieved, donations will no longer be accepted. Once sent your donations will be accepted as a personal gift and used ethically for the reasons stated above only. Your donation is not eligible for tax deduction as a gift tax either. The term "Fundraising" through this website is not related to the act of giving money to an established organisation or individual for the benefit of another detailed in this Australian Tax Office document, but relates to the act of giving Mitchell Charles Gallina money for the purposes strictly listed in the synopsis of this website with a mutual agreement the money will be forfeited by the donor upon transfer. You must be over 18 years of age to donate money or have your parents permission. There is no minimum or maximum for donation, every cent helps.

For information on the program itself please see:

South-Africa 2 week Volunteer Program

And finally, please consider the following information from the Australian Tax Office before donating:

Cape Town

South Africa's political history has resulted in racially separate and grossly inequitable provisions of health services.
Those who least require the services, have access to more varied and a greater proportion of health and health related services than those who require it most. This resulted in gross inequity of health services provision, and has also resulted in fragmentary and uncoordinated provision of services.
